Smartphone sale is growing in India and that too by leaps and bounds. In near future, it is expected to overtake the US market and become world's second largest Smartphone seller by 2017. As per a report published by an International research firm Strategy Analytics, Smartphone sales figure globally will jump from the present 1.5 billion units to a record 1.7 billion by 2017.

Growth in India’s Smartphone market is driven by several factors like:-

  • Low Smartphone penetration till now
  • Expansion in retail availability of devices
  • Wealthy middle-class consumers willing to invest in high-end devices
  • Aggressive promotions from several local Smartphone brands
  • Availability of easy installments to buy expensive devices

It should be noted in this regard that the last month, i.e., June saw several high-end to low-end Smartphones hitting the market with awesome features. The companies played their part well to woo consumers with gorgeous looking devices and temping features. Thus there came Xperia Z3+, HTC Desire 326G Dual SIM, HTC One E9+, Micromax Canvas Selfie Lens Q345, XOLO Cube 5.0 and others, to fit every wallet!

Now coming back to the report as published by the international research firm, around 118 million Smartphones are expected to be sold in India this year. This is a whopping figure indeed! China will hold the prime position by selling around 458 million Smartphones. This sales figure will rise steadily to touch 505 million in 2017. Side by side the report has also mentioned that the Smartphone market in China has almost reached a stagnation point from where much progress is not expected.

In comparison, the United States won’t perform that stupendously. The research report forecasts sale of around 164 million Smartphones in the US in 2015. The sales figure will rise marginally to 169 million in 2017. The fact that this figure is much lesser as compared to India’s sales estimate of 174 million in 2017 will surely prove to be a dampener for the United State’s Smartphone market.

From above analysis, it can be concluded that it is India which will benefit from the next major wave of growth in the Smartphone segment. Needless to say the market will be flocked by greater number of serious global hardware or software players in coming days. The untapped potential of the huge Smartphone market in Indian just can’t be overlooked and we as Indians certainly have more than one reason to rejoice!
