Is Apple TV Actually about to Morph into a Real TV?
Apples new venue for the new iPhone unveiling has been upgraded to a bigger, better location this September 9th. In addition a lot of talk is about Apple TV, which isn't actually a TV! More like a cable TV-box! There has been 1 or 2 mentions around the net that may all be changing! Maybe Apple TV, might actually become just that! A TV set!
Now lets see where the breadcrumbs might have fallen. First off, the iPad was rumoured to be coming in jumbo size, but those rumours seem to have disappeared! Could that jumbo-iPad actually be the new Apple TV? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to size up the iPad when its sales have tanked because everybody wants to size it down to iPhone 6+ size! And then there is the keynote slogan, “Hey Siri, give us a hint.” Siri’s been around for a long time so whats the big deal this time around?
Well, if Apple TV is gonna actually be a real TV its gonna need a pretty cool upgrade on the input side to launch the death of the omnipresent TV remote control. Remote controls! Wow, now there’s a tech device that seems to be oblivious to any sort of upgrade! Hell they've been around for 40 years at least, since the 70s! Of course theres nothing thats ever gonna replace the trusty remote control…except, perhaps, just maybe…yeah, Siri!
Now as everyone knows Siri is kinda useless. Who wants to start talking to, instead of on, their iPhone in public when everyone can see! Even now its still kinda weird right! But hey, TVs are found in that most comfortable, safest room in your home, that place where you feel free to do anything you want to do! They're in your living room. Thinking about it now and surely Siri was invented for TVs wasn't it? It sure as hell wasn't invented for the iPhone because almost nobody used it after the first week of release!
Controlling your TV with Siri would work pretty well. Add to that the new revolution everybody has been talking about, none other than IoT, and a voice controlled TV would be the perfect place to control your house. “Hey! Siri, switch-on my aircon. Show me my mail. Turn to channel 6. Boil me a coffee. Whats in the fridge? Wake me up when I fall asleep watching this dull movie!” It kinda seems pretty obvious as a central processing unit for your house. Even now, above PCs or smartphones, TVs have that central importance within any home. They are godlike, we almost gather around them to pray! Smartphones on the other hand are personal devices! We hide them in our pockets almost as if we are having an affair with them!
Without a doubt our old fashioned TVs need a big upgrade and Siri controlled Apple TV screens would be just that! But how easy would it be to make them! Easy, really easy! Big iPad plus Apple TV = Apple TV controlled by Siri! The hardest thing to do is decide the colour! Black? White? Gold? And hey presto, a new Apple revolution thats just made up of some old apple product parts that in the case of Apple TV, nobody ever actually was interested in, or, in the case of iPad, a device that is way past its use-by-date!
