New Google logo - first thoughts So, Google has announced a new logo. I like it. This is a great example of a brand really thinking through how their visual design needs to reflect their broadening activity - across many screens and across an increasing number of industries. The launch of Alphabet felt like a serious point of maturity for Google as it openly recognises that it's business is now doing far more than just organising the world's information, what with Nest, Driverless Cars and so on. And now they've taken the not insignificant step of updating and modernising their brand to reflect and lead this.

New Google logo - first thoughts

So, Google has announced a new logo.

The primary colours become an even stronger part of the VI for me, especially when you see how movement is being introduced to the logo (not dissimilar to what we did with the EE logo at launch) - see the video here

No doubt there will be a lot of noise about the change, with many saying they prefer the old look and feel (few people really like change) but I think this is a smart step and is the beginning of a smart, flexible brand identity and visual palette which will serve Google well for a few more years.
