Xiaomi manufactures high quality but low-cost smartphones, opting to drive in revenues from its software service (it uses the Amazon model).
Going After Apple: Smartphone/iPhone Competition

There are a number of other smartphone competitors popping up around the world.
All this is pushing the smartphone market in a different and perhaps unknown direction. That includes Apple. The rise of these competitors have forced Apple to roll out a "cost-effective" version of the iPhone last year - the iPhone 5c.
At the end of the day, all of this is good for the consumer who will eventually benefit from a high quality and cost-effective product. Watch this space.
