New Year's reflection
Somebody's sadness wailing outside the window
Caught in the wind's tight, cold unrelenting grasp
Temperatures keep climbing to freezing numbers
The New Year, almost here, shadowing the past
It's time to sum up this year's events
Kiss it goodbye ...remember and erase
Put a fence between the previous and coming months
Maybe with a hint of bitterness, forgive yourself for mistakes
Unpredictability of the future
Become a year older soon
Another line crossed over on the universe's timetable
This celebration is for a younger generation to enjoy
For them time is chimera
Something intangible and vague to reckon
Not worrying much as there are many years to come
The blissful ignorance or arrogance of inexperienced youth
How sweet it is to ignore the fact of mortality
Laugh, dance, drink champagne on account of the New Year
Later, aging quite a bit, prudence will turn this celebration into reflection
Of what has been done, and what could have happened
