Stop looking to be Blown away by these new devices.
Sunday long read. We want Stability

Evolution is a beautiful thing. Smartphones are in the stable channel right now which is a good thing. Its the year of software. I dont know what people are looking for them to be disappointed by every single device that comes out. Unless you are ones of those people who compares Phablet battery life to mass consumer targeted smartphones. My phablet last me 4 days on charge cool story bro but that size though. Flagships are Hero devices which have to appeal to the masses not a niche audience. Buy this phone then root and use a custom rom is not a sales pitch. So evolution is why we are in the place that we are in. Android devices now have a great out of the box experience. This is how I judge devices. Dont tell me to root or rom my device. Anyways I still get excited over phone launches as you may have seen when i went to check out the HTC M8 on day 1. The phone is covered in 90% Metal. This is a big deal. Its innovation. Asus failed at this before with the transformer. People calling this phone a minor upgrade is an idiot. Same people who called the Nexus 5 a minor upgrade. Its far from just copy and pasting. Its about Execution. I have no preconceived expectations. If you want innovation go buy one of those phones from CES.

I just want the device to function as described on the spec sheets. Im not looking for the device to save the world. Im looking for a device to make the necessary improvements from the year prior. We know when feature are just pasted into the devices. You can tell because the next year the handset maker moves away from those old features and never really improve upon them. Every new feature is not a gimmick. Sometimes a new feature force you to change your lifestyle. I like to use the term useful and useless. A desktop screensaver is useless to the majority but whenever i walk into any office a screen saver is on. These devices are not just for you or your friends. These are broads devices which are meant to cover  the globe and reach every demographic. I know you don't think like that but there is reason why they call it their Hero device or Flagship device. Android wont be changing anytime soon outside out UI tweaks.

The real innovation is happening within the actual apps. This the year of cloud applications. What I mean by that is HTC created Zoe now they are pushing it harder with Zoe in the cloud. This is the same thing as Google creating the smart dialer. This is a better user experience versus 2k display and octacore devices. If you're bored with everything then your life is just boring. Google now is boring if youre boring. I have a friend who called me with excitement because their device helped them out when they were in a bind. You buy a device that opens a page 5 sec quicker is not innovation. You buy a device that last 2 hours more on charge is not innovation. Innovation is the handset maker making you change the way you use to do thing and become more productive and efficient. Innovation is Vine and Instagram birthing from the Camera app. It gets you to share your photos and videos. You might not use those apps but they are innovation. The Hardware itself will always be boring. You need great software and a booming ecosystem to keep user engaged. Not All LTE radio, Screen displays, camera, hardware are the same so pick the one that suites you the best. Numbers are just numbers. Execution>> Raw specs on a piece of paper.

LTE is 3-4 years old, NFC is old, Wireless charging is old, 1080P is old, Quadcore chips are old, etc which leads to a stable device. People hate Stable. They want a device filled with new technology to brag on social media and the web. I prefer stable over experimental technology. The dark days of LTE draining your battery in 4 hours is behind us. Android changing every year and forcing you to relearn things is behind us. Now companies can bring devices to market quicker and they can update their device faster.

1080p was a gimmick when the Droid DNA came out. Now its the standard

41MP was a gimmick when the Nokia 808 pureview came out. Now we have the Nokia 1020 which everybody lust after

Beats by dre on HTC phones were called a gimmick. Now everybody want Boomsound speakers. Its now the standard

Quad Core phones were called gimmicks
