We all do it. Your smartphone buzzes, beeps and generally interrupts your flow. You take it out of your pocket, you unlock it with your pin. Now they've got you. You open the notifications or worse still the app itself only to see it's just a newsletter, news that ice cream is available in the lunch room or other such distractrivia! Then it goes from bad to worse. You've made the mistake of opening your inbox. A half dozen emails in your inbox including, horror, two unread submissives beckon for your attention. You make the mistake of opening one that contains a link to an article that you clearly need to read...now. You've ventured beyond your inbox to worse, the world wid...I really didn't believe #9. Will you ever remember what you were originally doing again as you sink deeper into the intertubes.

Focus could well be the best feature of the Apple Watch, Android Wear or any other well implemented "Smart Watch". The singular functions and simple screen delivering notifications could save us from ourselves. The temptress that awaits within our phone for the opportunity to draw us in will remain in our pocket. The lone notification won't remind us that other emails are begging for our attention. Reply! No, that should never be an option. Save us from ourselves by limiting us to just two pavlovian responses, Later or Dismiss. Better yet, Delete.

The drooling may not stop when the bell rings but at least we have a better chance now to keep the devils distraction to a minimum. Keep the phone in our pocket and address the task at hand. Often tech is about removing friction, the smart watch may be about removing distraction. Making us more productive not because of what it does but because of what it prevents us from doing.
