Will this help Samsung gain more momentum in the Chinese market? China’s smartphone market overall has seen its first YOY decline in the first quarter of 2015 as reported by IDC and also local competitor Xaomi saw its sales falling in H1/2015 compared to H2/2014.

With this development in China and also a slowdown in Europe, Samsung’s second quarter operating profit was down 4% YOY. We have still to see the impact of the very well received and reviewed Galaxy S6 and S6 edge phones Samsung launched in April 2015 - however it seems demand especially for the standard S6 was below expectations while demand for the edge-screen phone was underestimated and is (currently) confronted with low production yield.

Samsung has supposedly already pulled forward the launch of the Note 5 to August this year in order to prevent losing out on sales when the new iPhone is to be launched in September. Interesting times ahead indeed!
