The "New" celebrity endorsed fad known as 'waist training' is making potentially billions. And guess what!? It's all the way up there with dumb stuff like the 'paleo diet', '6 week 6 pack' and the 'Aloe Vera Detox' Bulls**t.
Well we've all seen corsets back in the Victorian times, it was deemed more womanly to have a thin waist and big hips, they would literally get to the point of crushing their rib cages and doing some serious damage to vital digestive organs and in extreme cases death. Yes I said it... DEATH!
Lungs - Major damage to lower lobes and strain so if you had pneumonia or tuberculosis back then chances of death were pretty high!... plonkers.
Circulation - Extreme cases could cause heart palpitations. Sounds like fun!
Breasts (only applies to 'over-bust' corsets) - Can lead to reduction in nipple size, that's good news for some of you. It can also cause mammary abscesses which is inflammation of connective tissue within the breast. Lovely stuff.
Colon - The most effected organ, leading to constipation... just what you want on a night out painting the town red.
Liver - Probably quite a big issue on this one, liver cancer is mainly caused by a restriction of blood. Nuff Said!
First things first, nowadays obviously we've got science and human beings with PhD's and things which are generally pretty good at telling us whether something is good or bad for you. So lets begin...
It is not a permanent fix - You may believe that once you've done your 'waist training' crap that it will stay like that forever and you'll bring all the 'boys to the yard' however as soon as you stop, guess what?! the body will try to get itself back to a normal and healthy state once again. It's a bit like Liposuction, you can't just have it done and then carry on eating cakes for breakfast!
"OMG Ross! BUT I LOST SO MUCH WEIGHT USING IT" - No, no, no you didn't! They've advertised this ludicrous thing to shed inches off your waist line, and lose weight due to the amount you sweat perspired around your midriff. Sorry to disappoint but the only thing you lost is water weight, which you will inevitably put back on when you drink some more water, unless you decide to stay dehydrated for the remainder of your existence, and the inches you 'lost'... I mean Squeezed in, will also come back when you take the silly thing off.
So whats the answer to a smaller waist?... Now some of you may find this hard to believe but what you should probably do is start with the latest 'Healthy Eating Diet' it's been around since forever! That hand in hand with 30-60 minutes of dedicated physical activity every day and soon you will have your desired shape.
So spend the money on a Personal Trainer, a Gym Membership, High Intensity classes and fill the cupboards up with real, whole and healthy foods.
