Google’s New Logo Family Represents Balance of Evolution and Root While this is certainly not the first time Google has introduced tweaks to its iconic logo, this is the first time they have expanded their corporate branding story to include the new “Google dots” and G icon. While this is certainly not the first time Google has introduced tweaks to its iconic logo, this is the first time they have expanded their corporate branding story to include the new “Google dots” and G icon. I see a great deal of symbolism in this branding family as Google transitions itself from a singular entity to the new Alphabet structure and ongoing acquisition of talent and technology.

Standing by their signature primary color palette, the colors are brighter than some logo iterations. There is something innocent about colors so comfortable in a kindergarten classroom, yet applied to something as complicated as a Google algorithm. Another first for the company, and the change that struck me most about this logo, is that there are NO SERIFS! This is the first version of the Google logo that is completely free from serifs or serif-like qualities.

The logo represents a beautiful balance of contemporary freshness and a nod to the original vision of Larry Page and Sergey Brin as graduate Students at Stanford. “Google has changed a lot over the past 17 years – from the range of our products to the evolution of their look and feel. And today we’re changing things up once again,” the company said in a blogpost. With Google and Alphabet on the rise, this is certain to be one small piece of a much larger evolution.
