Samsung is set to launch its latest smartwatch – the Gear S2 – on 21 January according to media invites. The Tizen OS based smartwatch that was launched by Samsung at IFA, Berlin last year, has been launched in phases in many countries abroad and will make its India entry on Thursday.
The Samsung Gear S2 sports a circular watch face design and the interesting bit is its 1.2-inch ‘full circle’ design. This circular dial allows you to navigate and interact with the watch. The 360 x 360 pixel Super AMOLED display gives a 302ppi pixel density. The display will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
The smartwatch is powered by a Samsung Exynos 3250 chipset which houses a dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz which is paired with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. Running on the Tizen OS, the Gear S2 comes in three variants – Gear S2, Gear S2 Classic and Gear S2 3G which has a different chipset powering it that offers 3G connectivity.
As far as sensors go, the Gear S2 comes with the heart rate sensor, gyroscope, accelerometer, barometer, ambient light sensor as well as GPS in the case of 3G model. The smartwatch is IP68 certified as well which makes it water resistant. It houses a 250mAh battery as well.
