The Apple Watch is building mainstream success of the smartwatch category.
A new report validates the numbers those in the industry have been following closely since last year on the Apple Watch's impact for smartwatch competitors future success.
Also a big opportunity for new smartwatch producers' entries into the category with huge growth predicted. The teams at Olio and Pebble are counting on that.
Pebble managed to raise $20 million for their new "Time" on Kickstarter by March 2015. Now Pebble has started mass production of the new Pebble "Time" smartwatch and announced they will start shipping the device later this month.
Mass production starts this week. This is one week later than originally planned. The majority of May backers will still see their watches ship this month. Some backers at the back end of the May reward line will see their watches ship the first week of June.

Too, the success of the smartwatch market in the next five years depends on how the Apple Watch performs year over year. So far, it appears to be on track as an item that was deemed incidental by critics, to one that is becoming an essential for 20 million Apple Watch users this year, and has 56-65% of the smartwatch market.
Android Wear and other OS smartwatches will benefit greatly, as they introduce multiple smartwatches this year as technology develops and brands understand what consumers want. Even critics of the Apple Watch validate the impact it is having on the category of smartwatches. Fashion Watch brands like Swatch are looking at it as a new opportunity to increase their brand expansion as they introduce a lower priced smartwatch with Pay feature and partner, Visa this summer.
The entire category is expected to enjoy an over 500% increase in sales with the impact of Apple Watch response from consumers.
IHS Reports this number for Apple Watch competitors success:
96 million Android Wear devices to ship in the next five years
"The entry of Apple into the wearable and smartwatch industry will have profound effects on consumer attitudes too and awareness of smartwatches, says IHS.
"As the Apple Watch requires you already have an iPhone, the report explains that Android smartphone users that are now enamored with smartwatches will likely turn to Android Wear devices or we could even see iPhone users that would like a separate device for their wrist turn to Android too. Android Wear is expected to ship 96m devices over the next five years."says IHS. Paste Reports below,
“Delivering a wide range of apps will be critical for smartwatch success,” said analyst Antonios Maroulis. “Apple’s and Google’s success with existing smartphone application stores will give them an invaluable head start over challengers.
