Ups and downs are a part and parcel of every person’s life and every business. Neither good nor bad times are there to stay. Hence it is important to keep the spirits high in all the times in order to avoid any unwanted effects. Difficult times in a business do not define a company; hence the way you deal with it is important. Often these days hit the hardest to the employees, affecting their morale. Bad days of a business lead the employees into feeling demotivated accompanied with fear for obvious reasons.
At such times keeping the employees going and encouraging them should be the priority. Having them stick around and ensuring their trust in the organization has not shaken to unreturnable extents is something you must put your efforts into. There are a couple of actions on your part that could lead you to regaining the trust of your employees.
Positivity- A focused effort towards staying positive in your conversations and actions will take you to having your employees keep their high. No matter the situation, your employees will tend to take cues from the way you behave and speak to them and so it is important you remain positive.
Communication- In order to build the morale of your employees it is essential that you be open and honest with them along with sharing logical and approachable strategies which will help improvise the situation. Hiding facts from your employees will not only distance them but also compel them into doubting your interests. Making the employees a part of the situation by involving them into giving suggestions will help them feel good and important.
Healthy Relations- Demonstrating you care about your employees is vital because if you do not seem to care about them, they may begin to lose faith in your ability which will eventually have them handing in resignation letters. It is a motivating factor for employees when they know their boss is a part of their team. Be approachable to your employees giving them a sense of being cared for.
Setting an example- Being a part of the team is important although the fact remains that you are the boss and by setting an example for your fellow employees especially with your actions and method during such times will only further encourage them reaffirming their trust in you and the organization.
These are just a few pointers in motivating your workforce. What is imperative is not remaining an onlooker while the situation gets bad. The last thing you would want is your employees showing distrust in you and sending in resignation letters. Re-energizing your staff/employees is the most important thing to do during difficult times in an organization.
