One of the most popular excuses I hear at this time of the year is that "I want to wait until the New Year."
If you are considering adding products or services, there is often no time like the present. My customers often ask me, "When is the best time to buy?" The best answer is when a product or service is needed. But this may be the optimum time to get product fast and save money. Here's why:
Many manufacturers want to trim down year end inventory and will be willing to offer heavier discounts at lower quantities. In addition, manufacturers are motivated to ship before December 31. If you buy through a third party, this might be the time that you leverage your yearly purchasing. Ask your reseller if you can get extra discounts for year end purchases. They may also be able to combine your product needs to get the volume discounts you're seeking.
I refer hospitals to many bright applications and third party support companies. If there are application development needs, electronic health record augmentation, interoperability and connectivity, or EHR support needs, this is the time to negotiate. This is especially true since 2016 looks as though it will be a banner year for most of these companies. Squeeze the last dollar out of your 2015 budget and you may benefit in many ways:
Companies may offer extra services or support an end of the year project. Even if you are starting something new, negotiate now despite the fact you're putting off the start until next year. If you are seeking services or support and would like a list of vetted companies send me your request at bbennett@scott-clark.com.
Don't give up on 2015! Find what money is left in your budget or see if other departments have slack. Projects or buys still on your schedule can be put away now so that you can start the new year fresh. Have a great Holiday Season and prosperous 2016.
