Digital Marketing Discovery V – From Websites to Web/mobile apps
I sense some sort of danger for the business where the only model is to sell website design and allied services. Website design is not at all a challenge for us as it was 10 years ago. The challenge lies in making the website purposeful and basically a marketing ready one. But many of the web designers don’t follow the rule or they just cannot understand the purpose. Apart from the aesthetic part you also need to focus on the purpose of the website and the user experience so that you can sell products/services fast.
Okay, so you are talking about marketing and supporting technology for that. Things are converging towards marketing and user experience. In many small cities in India where the concept is not yet built that web site should help marketing (sales+ adverts+ branding + reach) as that is the sole objective of having a website. Many of the small companies are still providing web design and development services to the local clients and seems they are happy with that.
Things are changing fast: Ultra local is the new start up concept. Anyone can have a start up on niche local services and can promote it. With the increasing no of smart phones, internet penetration and digital India initiative, I would suggest the small city based technologists to offer mobile apps or web apps to the clients. They can start with a website but in the long run they should focus on apps and user experience.
