Smart Phone Navigation
Getting ready to go on vacation. I had to bump my Tmobile data plan so I would have enough to use gps navigation on a cross-country drive. I now have 500 mb per month, though I have no idea how much I will actually need. 30 mb is not enough to do much of anything, as I have run out several times.
I was on a 30 dollar per month plan with Tmobile, now I am on a 40 dollar per month plan. I have no contract. I was told by a friend that he had a 363 dollar charge on his Verizon mobile phone, which he attributed to posting on social networks via his smartphone. I have been hammering him to change to Tmobile's unlimited plan for 50 dollars per month. It only makes sense to economize, and how much more does anyone need than unlimited data?
I found an android app called OSM AND (not sure if it's all caps or what), which allows one to plot a route and download it to be used offline. This is my backup in case Tmobile delays my plan upgrade and I find myself on the road without navigation. I also have the Rand McNally Atlas that I bought 25 years ago in case all else fails. It's vacation afterall.
